[Overview]

This unit is an ALTEC 440C mono tube control preamplifier manufactured in the late 1950s.

It offers a versatile selection of inputs, with four input types and five total inputs: TV, TAPE, RCVR, and PHONO 1/2.

The unit is equipped with a total of three vacuum tubes: one 12AU7 and two 12AY7 tubes. These tubes add a pleasant warmth to the solid and well-defined ALTEC sound.

Each input is also equipped with its own independent trim control, allowing the 440C to serve as the centerpiece of a stable and well-balanced audio system.

■ Sound Quality ■

The sound is very natural, with neither the bass nor treble sounding forced or exaggerated.

Harsh peaks in the high frequencies are well controlled while maintaining excellent dynamics. The treble remains smooth and free from unpleasant graininess, resulting in an exceptionally comfortable and enjoyable listening experience.

This is an excellent amplifier that performs well across a wide variety of musical genres, including Jazz, Classical, and Rock.
