Altec 342B Mono Tube Amplifier

Overview

This listing is for a pair of ALTEC 342B mono tube power amplifiers, introduced by Altec in the late 1950s during the golden age of analog audio. A dedicated rack for this pair is included.

The 342B is a four-channel mixer-style power amplifier that was used in many broadcast stations and studios. It delivers 35 watts of output and uses 12AX7, 6CG7, 7027, and GZ34 tubes. With support for speaker impedances from 4 to 16 ohms, it can be paired with a wide range of speakers.

Sound

This amplifier keeps unwanted peaks and coloration to a minimum while delivering excellent dynamics. The bass is stable, full, and deep. The midrange and treble rise naturally, with extended highs that sound pleasant and effortless.

The amplifiers have been serviced and confirmed to be fully operational. Their components have been inspected, and the bias has been adjusted for the installed tubes.

Considering their age, they are in generally good condition, aside from signs of use on the panels and some dirt on the chassis. Please review the many photos provided. As these are vintage items, the seller asks that claims be limited to operational defects.
